New Retail, Medical Underway

A commercial boom is now underway with shopping centers and business parks springing up across the region.  Currently under construction off S.C. 160 between Gold Hill Road and I-77 is a wave of new retail centers including Stonecrest Village, Gold Hill Crossing, Graystone Crossing and a new hospital.  These centers will feature Walmart, Lowes as well as fine shops and dining.

 

Responding to influx of baby boomers seeking homes for retirement in the region, Sun City Carolina Lakes, a 3,300-home Del Webb active adult, resort-style community is being built off U.S. 521 and where there is already a waiting list for homes.

 

Education

Rock Hill is home to three institutes of higher education. Winthrop University has over 6,000 students and was recently named one of the Top Ten Regional Public Universities in the South in U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" 2006 edition.

Schools are among the best in the Carolinas, employing highly qualified teachers and building premier learning facilities with advanced equipment and resourced for students.  York County boasts four top-rated school districts: Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Clover and York.

 

Nine Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in the region including Bank of America, Wachovia, Goodrich, SPX Corp. and Duke Energy.
